This is a peaceful, two-bedroom cottage in its own grounds amid stunning scenery just 1.5 miles south-west of Dolgellau on the lower slopes of Cadair Idris in the Snowdonia National Park. Cosy is the word, and it makes a perfect private retreat for a family, two couples or small group. Stock up on supplies or just have look around the picturesque market town of Dolgellau. The cottage makes a brilliant base for days out exploring the wider National Park – maybe the Mawddach Trail by foot or bike? Paddle on either Fairborn or Barmouth Beach, a 10-mile drive away. At 15 miles away, be inspired for the future at the Centre for Alternative Technology. Hop on a narrow-gauge locomotive from Blaenau Ffestiniog (24 miles) to Porthmadog.
This cottage offers charm in spades with beautiful, exposed rafters, prop and beams, a large stone inglenook fireplace with wood burner and slate-style floor in the open-plan living, kitchen and dining area. It achieves the perfect balance between old-world tradition and contemporary living and offers space while still feeling cosy. The living space is next to the kitchen area with its modern and well-equipped kitchen including double Belfast sink. There’s also a dining area seating six, with another reading corner if you need some quiet time out.
A lot of thought has gone into this property with practical touches such as a utility room accessed from the garden, plus adjacent wet room with a rain shower and WC. Upstairs, both king-size bedrooms offer antique furniture, original roof truss, sloped ceilings and beams and gorgeous views across fields, woodland and mountains. The master bedroom also benefits from an en-suite shower room with WC. Gaze at the beamed ceiling or out of the Velux roof window as you soak in the deep slipper bath in the remaining upstairs bathroom with WC.
Outside, you have a large multi-level grassed area with mature trees for a garden bordered to the south by a stream. On the level immediately around the house, a gravelled area has various seating options: an 8-seater round picnic table, a bistro table for two, a fire pit and grill, plus charcoal BBQ. And beyond the garden and for views, you have the Snowdonia National Park. Just bliss!
